Supports in the community to build connections
My Autism Team: A website dedicated to parents with children on the autism spectrum. In this website parents can connect asynchronous or synchronous by writing to each other back and forth about parenting, community resources and more. Parents can connect with other parents by signing in and building their “team” with parents that are in the same vicinity.
Facebook groups: There are several Facebook groups that have been started by parents and or families of children with special needs. These groups offer asynchronous and asynchronous connections and support among parents. What is more interesting, is that parents can also connect and send each other messages or call using their Facebook profiles. Parents with children with disabilities can choose to make their own parent support group on Facebook by inviting other parents in their own community.
Meetup groups: There are several meetup groups dedicated for families with children with disabilities within their own communities. Parents and family members can also create their own “meetup” groups. These groups share calendars with upcoming meetings. The meeting can be face to face in a designated place or via zoom.
Special Olympics Southern California There are several types of sports children, teens and young adults can join. Parents can also help volunteer and make connections with other parents while cheering for their athletes.
